What We Do

ESOL in Higher Ed provides teacher preparation programs with resources, strategies, and research-based activities to support English learners (ELs/ELLs)/Multilingual learners (MLs) in the P-12 classroom. In addition, this website offers engaging and practical resources for P-12 school district trainings in preparing all educators to effectively communicate and teach students whose first language is not English.

Jane Govoni, Ph.D.

Jane Govoni, Ph.D.Meet Jane Govoni, founder of ESOL in Higher Education. Jane holds a PhD in Interdisciplinary Education with an emphasis on Second Language Acquisition and Instructional Technology from the University of South Florida, and a master’s degree in Spanish from Boston College. Jane began her career as a middle/high school Spanish teacher and then became a tenured professor at Saint Leo University in Florida where she designed and taught ESOL courses for pre-service teacher candidates at the undergraduate and graduate level. With vast experience in world language education and ESOL, she serves as a facilitator and presenter for numerous organizations. She is a former reviewer for CAEP/TESOL program accreditation, former executive secretary for the Southeastern Regional Association of Teacher Educators (SRATE), and recipient of several teaching awards. Currently, she is the ESOL program coordinator for undergraduate and graduate programs at the University of South Florida.
