Last week LULAC celebrated the 25th anniversary of its landmark consent decree. LULAC, the League of United Latin American Citizens, is dedicated to advancing the economic condition, educational attainment, political influence, housing, health and civil rights of Hispanic Americans. In 1990 a lawsuit against the Florida Board of Education generated this landmark consent decree which sets forth rights and protections for children learning the English language. The decree includes proper teacher training and adequate monitoring of student academic progress.

The week of August 14, 2015, was designated as LULAC Consent Decree Week and celebrated twenty five years of achievements and outstanding contributions in pursuing equality of opportunities in the country and the education of English Language Learners.
